Help Clean Upper Otay Reservoir

Its time to clean up the mess left in 2005! On October 8th at 8am the Friends of Otay Valley Regional Park and the City of San Diego Water Department are joining forces to clean up trash dumped along the road in Proctor Valley and around Upper Otay Reservoir. The City will provide a large dumpster and trash bags and the Friends of OVRP will provide water and pickers and trucks to haul the trash bags back to the dumpster. All we need is your help to fill a couple of bags and leave them by the road for pickup! Please help restore the beautiful and natural open space areas in our regional park. We will meet at the parking lot for Upper Otay Reservoir off Proctor Valley Road (roughly .2 miles from the end pavement). Please call 619-397-5300 for any questions you may have. .

Eastern OVRP Cleanup
There will be signs directing you to the staging area along Otay Lakes Road with ample parking for all vehicles. We will have a station set up with water, instructions and the opportunity to register for future activities. Once you fill your boxes, just place them along the side of the road/trail and we will pick them up at the end of the day. Just two weeks after the fires you could already see the sprouting of new vegetation.

Residents Making a Difference

During December '03, January and March 2004, the Friends of Otay Valley Regional Park (Friends of OVRP) sponsored three cleanup efforts on Lower Otay Reservoir. The October fires exposed years of trash and with the help of local residents we have erased years of neglect and returned our countryside to a natural look.

During these threee cleanup efforts, many groups and individuals have stated their desire to stay involved in improving our open space amenities. The groups include local Brownie Troops, Boy Scouts, Filipino-American youth, Hanson Aggregates, Otay Real Estate Company, and Pirates Grove. We hope to add your organization and you to this growing list.

The Friends of OVRP is excited to organize the local community in enhancing our knowledge and enjoyment of the Otay Valley Regional Park. This Regional Park will provide trails and recreational opportunities in the near future. These trails will link the Otay Lakes to San Diego Bay (a distance of more than 13 miles) and will be part of the City's Greenbelt Master plan.

For more information on the Otay Valley Regional Park, our event schedule and how to be involved please visit www.ovrp.org or call Frank Ohrmund or Cesar Gutierrez at 619-397-5300.
