On June
19th, between 7 and 10 am, the Friends of Otay Valley Regional Park are
challenging area residents to hike to the top of one of the Jamul Mountains.
This hike is moderately steep and follows a Border Patrol Road to an incredible
peak with views of the entire south-bay area, Downtown San Diego and Mexico.
This hike
takes roughly 40 minutes for power hikers to get to the top, which is over
1400 feet in elevation, and 25 minutes to come down. Or you can take
a slower pace and enjoys the views at many points along the way. If
you want to test your fitness level, this hike will do it. You can
even cut the hike short at the half-way point and enjoy panoramic views
over Otay Lakes.
You will
need sturdy shoes, shorts and a hat. Water bottles and snack
bars will be provided. In addition, we will take pictures of everyone
who reaches the top and will email them to you for a keepsake of your accomplishment.
For directions
on where to park and start this hike, go east on Proctor Valley Road (roughly 2
miles down the dirt portion) until you see our signs. We hope
to see there!
