Nature Walk at Otay Lakes County Park
Since nature walks work best with smaller groups, you need to sign up for this one. Group will be up to about 20 people. No calls after 9 PM please.
Our guide, Karen Smith, leads walks for the Sierra Club and works at Southwestern College. You can call her to reserve your spot at 619-422-3236. The recent rains will makes this years nature walk especially informative.
The plan is to meet at 8:45 AM in the fishing parking area to the left of the main entrance gate at Lower Otay Lake (Wueste Road, south of Olympic Parkway junction). We'll walk northward investigating whatever nature sorts of things we find interesting along the way (flowers, bugs, worms, birds, tracks?), learn a little about the native landscaping at the Olympic Training Center boathouse, then pick up trash on your way back to the start point. Less than three miles total walk, nearly flat. Capable children welcome with parents. No pets. Bring water, sunprotection, and a plastic grocery bag to fill with trash.
