Helping to Improve Our Environment

The Friends of Otay Valley Regional Park (OVRP) are looking for others who are interested in improving all experiences within our growing Regional Park.  With your ideas and support on how to improve this park, we can create additional programs that will serve everyone in our community.

If you would like to participate with people who want to make this corner of San Diego County a natural treasure, please come to our bi-monthly meetings @ the Clubhouse at the Woods.  We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every odd numbered month at 6:30 pm.  For more information on the OVRP, calendar of monthly events and how you can get involved, go to www.ovrp.org.

Recent activities have included a fantastic cleaning/restoring of the fire site on Lower Otay Reservoir (thanks again to all who participated), a nature walk with herpetologist  Brian S. Yang, cleaning and restoring Proctor Valley from illegal trash dumping and off-road riding and the on-going planning of hiking and biking trails that will connect Upper Otay Reservoir to the San Diego Bay near Imperial Beach.

This month we will test your Jeeps, Hummers or other four-wheel drive vehicles on a scenic experience over Otay Mountain.  On May 15th between 8-11am head east on Otay Lakes Road (roughly 3 miles past the Lower Otay Reservoir) to the Thousand Trails RV park, where you can begin your accent of Otay Mountain on Minnewawa Truck Trail.  Volunteers will guide you and provide maps from here. The earlier you go the better the sunrise views over the entire South Bay/Tijuana region.  This drive will drop you off in East Otay Mesa and should take 1 hour.  For more information on this event, go to www.ovrp.org/jeepotay.
