Earth Day 2004 - Balboa Park

 

During the period of 09:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 348 people stopped by
the OVRP exhibit consisting of five boards relative to the Otay
Valley Regional Park.  Boards consisted of 1). Chula vista Green Belt
which shows relationship of the OVRP within the Green Belt, all of
the 16 recreations noted on the boards contained size in acre's and
proposed use.2) Aerial view of the park from Nestor Creek east to
I-805 with 9 smaller aerial pictures under the large aerial 3) Large
aerials of various areas in the park, including Lower and Upper Otay
Reservoirs. 4) Summary of the Otay River Valley Cleanup Project, from
11/99 to 12/04, during 118 work days expending some 12,696 labor hours
in removing 1,158 tons of trash, making 242 land fill trips and
including pictures of transient camps that were removed. 5) Current
proposed trails development between I-5 and I-805.  OVRP banner was
displayed on end of table shared with San Diego County Park Rangers,
Friends of OVRP banner was hung on tripods holding exhibit. During
discussions with visitors, 280 copies of "Otay River" a "Regional
Park" news brief along with "Friends of OVRP" brochures were handed
out. Examples of the WEB Site were discussed. As a result of the
"Creek to Bay" participation 8 people furnished their names desiring
participation in cleanups.

 Members in attendance were myself, Wayne Dickey (CAC Member) and
 George Hanson (representing the Friends). It was worth the effort.
