Informational update
Joint Policy / CAC Committee / Public Work Shop Meeting July10th: Members and the public were given an in depth overview of the draft OVRP Master Trails Plan for the area between I-5 and I-805. In addition attendees were given an overview of City of Chula Vista's draft 'Green Belt Plan' which provides a green belt around the outer edge of the city providing Hiker and Biker Trails connecting to internal village trails, the OVRP and the Bayshore Bikeway.. The planned
regional park contains about 48 percent of the Green Belt, extending from the south end of San Diego Bay east to Upper Otay and eastern end of Lower Otay Reservoirs.
Otay River Special Area Watershed Management Plan: The County of San Diego has implemented within the Urban Runoff Management Program, a sub-program specifically adapted to the Otay River Valley area. Both the County and the City of Chula Vista has indicated a desire that the Otay River Valley Clean-up Project be an active component. The Cleanup Project has documented creeks, storage yards and other areas where contamination has been discovered during cleanup periods.
Western OVRP Security: Currently, there are only 3 known transient camps in the river valley area and these are west of I-5, west of Hollister Street and the south side of the 2300 block of Faivare St. Both Ranger Lawerence and the CAC Chair have been in contact with the cities of Chula Vista and San Diego (south), police departments who have issued abatement notices. The Cleanup Project follows through by removing material left, and the raising of shrubs so that police can see under them. Those transients desiring help are referred to the ALFA project.
OVRP Signage: Chula Vista's Public Works Center has provided a new solution to remove graffiti. Signs on the west side have been cleaned. The east side along with the entrance at the end of Del Monte St will be accomplished during next the Cleanup Project period.
South San Diego 2003, National Night Out/Community Resources Fair: The CAC has been requested to participate, which will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the South Bay Recreation Center, 1885 Coronado Ave, San Diego, CA 92154. The OVRP CAC will provide an over view of the parks Trails Master Plan , Chula Vista's Green Belt Program, Finney Elementary School Over Look Facility and the Otay Recreational Sports Park
OVRP WEB Site: Managed by Frank Orhmund, the site continues
to high light status of current and projected park projects.
Creek to Bay Clean-up: Next period will be on September 20th, location
to be determined by the OVRP CAC Chair. Southwestern College,
4 High Schools and 2 Community Groups have indicated a desire to participate.
