California Coastal Cleanup Day,

 

The Otay Valley Regional Park, Citizens Advisory Committee, and the

San Diego County Parks Department, in conjunction with the San Diego

County Board of  Supervisors will be corrdinating its second "Creek

to Bay" cleanup, a part of "I love A Clean San Diego" on Saturday,

September 20th, fom 09:00 am till 12:00 noon.

 

The first "Creek to Bay Cleanup" was held on April 12, 2003 in the

Hollister Pond Area east of I-5 adjacent to west side of Hollister

Street with 78 College and High School Students and 12  Adults.

 

Saturday. September 20th's, Clean up Area will be the Otay Valley

River habitat and open space area under Beyer Way Bridge, which is one

block south of the intersection of Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue in

Chula Vista.Parking will be available on the east side of Beyer Way

adjacent to Desma Tire Inc.in the fenced area, directional sign will be displayed. Participants are encouraged to car pool.

 

Partricipants are encouraged to check in at 08:00 to sign waiver forms,

work sheet and be assigned to a crew. Wear long trousers and shirts,

broad brim hat,sun glasses,sun protection cream and bring gloves,

Refreshments will be available. School Students will receive five hours

of Community Service Credit. For the participants under the age of 16

parents approval will be required.

Clean-up Location: Otay River Valley Open Space and Habitat Area adjacent to underneath Beyer Way Bridge, approximately 1/3 mile by 1/3 mile, adjacent open space and Habitat area.

Approximate weight of trash collected:  1,480 lbs. Number of Trash Bags used:  78.  Average weight per bag 23 lbs.  Most unusual item found: Large Bathtub (220 Lbs), King Size Box Springs and Mattress.  Other Items: Commercial and Household Trash Bob Cat furnished by Hanson Aggregates Co. used to transfer trash from river bottom up to Roll on/ Roll off donated by a private individual.
